Prophylactic gastrectomy in familial gastric cancer: case report and review of literature

چکیده
Gastric cancer is a prevalent disease. It is the most common cancer in men in Iran with around 7300 cases per year. Also it is the most common cause of cancer death in men and women in Iran [1]. Life style and environment including Helicobacter pylori infection and diet are risk factors, but 10% of cases with gastric cancer show familial clustering, which suggest a genetic predisposition [2,3]. Somatic E-cadherin gene mutations occur in 30% to 50% of patients with diffuse-type gastric carcinoma but not the intestinal type [1, 4]. A germline mutation in the E-cadherin gene, CDH1 on chromosome locus 16q22.1, first was recognized in a Maori kindred from New Zealand with diffuse gastric cancer in a pattern suggestive of an auto-somal dominant inheritance with incomplete penetrance [1,2]. Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) is an autosomal dominant, inhe-rited cancer syndrome which is described clinically by either 1) 2 or more documented cases of diffuse gastric cancer in first or second de-gree relatives with at least 1 diagnosed before age 50 years; or 2) 3 or more cases of documented diffuse gastric cancer in first or second de-gree relatives, indeCase Report

Prophylactic gastrectomy in familial gastric cancer: case report and review of literature
Absract Gastric cancer is the fourth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death. Most cases are sporadic and only 10% of patients, show familial clustering. Among these patients, 1 to 3 % have hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC), which is autosomal-dominant and present in younger ages. Mutations in Ecadherin gene CDH1 has been identified in 30 to 50% of patient...
متن کاملProphylactic Total Gastrectomy for Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer
Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) is characterized as an autosomal dominant cancer susceptibility syndrome largely attributable to germline mutations and deletions in the gene encoding E-cadherin, CDH1. Mutation carriers have a more than 70% lifetime risk of developing DGC and an elevated probability of lobular breast cancer. The aim of this review was to evaluate the results of surgical...
متن کاملCarcinosarcoma of Stomach with Chondroblastic Differentiation: A Rare Case and Review of Literature
Gastric carcinosarcoma is a rare cancer of adults with poor prognosis compared with other gastric malignancies. To the best of our knowledge, the present report is the first case of gastric carcinosarcoma with chondroblastic differentiation in Iran. A 63-year-old man with epigastric pain was admitted to the surgery department. Abdominopelvic CT-scan showed a hypodense mass lesion in distal gast...
متن کاملHereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer: Multidisciplinary Case Report with Review of the Literature
Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) is a rare, inherited cancer syndrome with at least one fourth of HDGC patients having an autosomal dominantly inherited mutation of CDH1 (E-Cadherin). Penetrance is relatively high (70-80% lifetime risk for gastric cancer). It is important for pathologists to recognize the syndrome's phenotype in early gastric lesions: patchy intramucosal signet ring cel...
متن کاملA Case Report of a Metastatic Primary Gastric Lymphoma; Diffuse Large B-Cell or Burkitt Lymphoma?
Introduction: Primary gastric lymphoma (PGL) is a rare tumor, whose differential diagnosis may become complicated without precise immunohistochemistry (IHC) and genetic analysis. Case Presentation: A 33-year-old woman presented with gastric cancer and had undergone gastrectomy without precise IHC and staging in another center. Inappropriate IHC after surgery showed diffuse large B-cell lymphom...
